A tallish guy with dark hair had been heading for the door, but he quickly swerved and headed toward the winged woman, his hand already reaching toward the girl in her arms. "That would be me. What's the problem?"

"Back injury of some kind. I don't know what happened," Elisa says, quickly. "I just found her. She was conscious, but passed out."

((Aye, I've been tired and distracted lately, so there's not as much variation in character voice as I would like.))

Wilson carefully unzipped the sleeping bag and pulled it back, his brows raising as he saw the splinted arm that was bound to the girl's chest. "Do you know anything about her?" His fingers went to the girl's neck to test her pulse and found it a little quick but in no danger.

Ah, God bless docotrs, more interested in treating the sick than playing the "Aaaah, monster!" that so many others did.

Elisa did not know much about River and was reluctant to spill a friend's secrets, but in times like this, there wasn't much choice. "She's got something of a history for injuries," she says. "Minor mostly, but not a lot of medical care."

He nodded without looking up, then frowned as he realized that the girl's ribs were taped as well. "What's her name?"

"River," Elisa says. "River Tam."

Again, a gamble, but the odds of their even being a counterpart to River in this universe were fairly slim. At the very least, she knew there wasn't any chance of one with the kind of record this River had.

"Someone's got a family history of 'Firefly' addiction," he noted, nodding to himself. This was the girl he'd been sent to see. "Bring her this way."

"I wouldn't know. Not much of a TV watcher." Not to mention the show's a good many years in the future of Elisa's world (where it's only 1996). But that's not something she knows.

He frowned and pushed aside a curtain, then nodded to the hospital bed that served as an examining table. "See if you can get her into this gown. I'll be right back."

Elisa folds her wings, cape-like, around herself so as to take up less space, before starting to comply with Wilson's instructions.

"Ow... ow! @#$%&$%$, Simon!" River's face creased fiercely as she achieved consciousness and almost wished she hadn't. "Oohhhhhh."

Elisa rested what she hoped was a reassuring hand on River's shoulder. "Shhh. It's gonna be okay, River. We're getting you some help."

"Wha...?" Her eyes flew open, then widened as her good hand moved to try and stop the clothes transfer. "Hey! What are you doing!"

From:

"River, calm down! You're in a hospital in my world. You blacked out from pain and I brought you here."

From:

She frowned, her hard mask firmly in place to cover her fear at the totally unknown and new situation. "Where's Simon?"

"I don't know. I tried to find him before I left the Nexus... But there wasn't time."

From:

"He's gonna be @#$%&$#." Her frown deepened. "What do you mean, wasn't time?"

"River, you passed out from the pain. I figured every second counted."

From:

"That's a bad thing?" Her brows quirked, a bit of the mask fading into concern.

Then she blinked. "Wait. How're you going to explain my lack of ID?"

"Passing out because of how much pain you're is usually a bad thing, yes," Elisa says, more out of an effort to keep River talking than to try and argue a point.

"I can thing of five excuses off the top of my head, starting with 'she was mugged' and working my way from there. This is New York, River. People get brought in to hosptials with no ID all the time."

"Yeah, well." She squirmed inside as she realized that Elisa had seen the grubby T-shirt that she'd been wearing since she got hurt because Simon didn't know how to get it off and another one on without hurting her.

Then her eyes went toward the curtain as footsteps approached.
