The Wedding

It was probably one of the most unusual weddings in history, especially when you factored in the fact that it was really only half a wedding. Gargoyle Mating Ceremonies were simple things. Human weddings tended to be far more complicated. That the 'groom' was a Gargoyle and the bride a Gargoyle who used to be human certainly made for a unique blend.
And there were the guests themselves. Hudson, Brooklyn, Lexington, Broadway, Angela, and Bronx, Gargoyles--Clan. Derek, Maggie, and Claw, Mutates--brother and friends. Peter, Diane, and Beth Maza; father, mother, sister--the human family. Matt Bluestone and Jeffrey Robbins--human friends. Quite the cross section, when it came down to it.
Everyone had agreed that Elisa looked beautiful. Where she'd gotten the dress, she'd refused to say, simply mentioning that a friend had made it for her. And besides, she'd made it clear that there was no way on Earth she was getting married in jeans and a t-shirt.
With family, friends, and Clan gathered around, she and Goliath stood before Hudson. In Gargoyle culture, it was the responsibility of the Clan leader or his second to preside over the Mating Ceremony, except in cases like this one, where the two were those same people. In those times, it fell to an elder member of the Clan. Hudson had been happy to provide such a service.
"I've done this many times," the old Gargoyle said, "but it is a duty I never get tired of. Love should always be celebrated, and I think I speak for all of us, when I say that for these two, that this is long overdue. I knew, from the moment I first saw them together, that this was meant to be."
He looked at Goliath. "This is not a choice one makes lightly. Goliath, do ye truly wish to take Elisa as your mate? Is your love a strong one, one which will last the ages? Will ye honor and protect her, come what may?"
The large purple Gargoyle nodded. "I do. Now and forever."
Hudson looked at Elisa. "And ye, Elisa? Do ye truly wish to take Goliath as your mate? Is your love as strong, will it last? Will ye honor and protect him, no matter what the world gives ye?"
She answered without hesitation. "I do. Always."
After a moment, Goliath spoke. "I once said that when you were human, I failed to notice how beautiful you were. I was a fool. Whatever form you may take, you will always be beautiful to me. You have more strength, more courage, more kindness, more life than anyone I have ever known. Without you, I would be lost in this world and in life. You complete me, Elisa. And if I can ever be even half as worthy of you as you believe I am, than I shall be a happy being."
Elisa responded in kind. "I've never known anyone like you, Goliath. Before we met, I was convinced that there wasn't someone out there for me. Turns out I just wasn't looking in the right place. You were there for me through all of my worst moments, and would have stood by me even if we'd continued to deny what we both knew to be love. And when my life turned upside down, when it would have been so easy to take things quickly, to give into the moment, you knew to take things slow. You will always be a part of me. And I'll always be here to catch you."
"We have heard them pledge their love, declare it before the Clan," Hudson said. "Does anyone here wish to challenge this?"
There were no challenges.
"Then," the Gargoyle Elder continued, "now and forever, Goliath and Elisa are mates. One until the end of time."
There was an awkward silence, and it took Elisa looking at Hudson for him to realize what he'd missed. "Ah, er, yes," he said. "Ye may kiss her, lad."
It was a really good kiss.
