Angela

Next up on the list to talk about is Angela.

As is pretty easy to see, Angela is the daughter of Goliath and Demona.  The story of how she came to be with us is almost as strange as the guys' story.

The egg that would eventually become Angela laid in 988 and should have hatched in 998, but, as often seems to be the case in my world, things didn't exactly turn out that way.  After the Clan was massacred in 995 ad Goliath and the others were frozen in stone, care of the Clan' thirty-six eggs fell into the hands of Princess Katherine of Catle Wyvern, her advisor the Magus, and a young boy name Tom and his mother Mary.  When further circumstances endangered the Princess's life and the life of the eggs, Katherine, the Magnus, and Tom fled to Avalon, a mystical island cut off from the natural world and the natural flow of time.  While one thousand years passed in the real world, only about twenty passed there.  They raised the Gargoyle children as if they were their own.

They should have been able to live their happily.  But an evil sorcerer called the Archmage, working with powerful Children of Oberon called the Weird Sisters, and the enslaved aide of Demona and MacBeth, sought to conquer Avalon and kill them all before moving on to conquer the rest of the world.  Tom traveled to New York, seeking to enlist Goliath's help.  He found it, along with me and Bronx.  When we defeated all of them, Angela asked to come and see the world with us.

I guessed who Angela was pretty much from the moment I saw her.  Hell, I think the only person who didn't figure it out or already have it figured out was Angela herself.  Even Goliath did, even if he wasn't exactly ready to admit it.  Gargoyle tradition calls for children to be raised by the whole Clan, with all of the Gargoyles that laid that generation of eggs acting as parents toward them.   Angela didn't seem to have any real interest in the issue, until she found out when Sevarius--who we ran into when he was trying to capture the Loch Ness Monster--did a DNA test on her.  Afterward, she wanted Goliath to confirm or deny it, and maybe to actually treat her like a daughter.  He resisted, for a brief time, but ultimately realized that the world was changing.  Not to mention that I was hardly going to go in for not recognizing any children of mine as being mine.  Maybe some of that will change for all of us, but for now, the two of them are working on forming quite the bond.

Angela was a breath of fresh air into all of our lives.  For Goliath and Hudson, it was in seeing that the children of the Clan were still alive and thriving.  For me, it was having another woman around the Clock Tower.  And for Brooklyn, Lex, and Broadway...

It was having a girl to chase after.  They made total idiots out of themselves, trying to vie for her attention for a good two weeks after we got back, until basically she told them to knock it the hell off.  She kept the option of letting them court her open, but told them in no uncertain terms that she wasn't a prize to be won.

It's been looking to me like she and Broadway are this close to becoming a couple.  Not that my opinion on it matters much, but I think they're a good match.

Angela's mother is, as I mentioned, Demona.  Who, amazingly, seems to feel something for her.  But she wants Angela to join her in her quest to erradicate all humanity, something that just isn't going to happen.  Angela, for her part of the equation, insists that there's some measure of good in Demona.

And as for me, well, maybe some of it's just plain old human thinking, but I'm basically her step-mother.  More than friends, more than sisters, we've got a fairly close bond.  She's willing to come to me to talk more than any of the others, Goliath included.  And she might not be my daughter, but I don't think I could love her any more if she was.

Of course, when she first found out  Goliath was her father, she did ask if I was her mother.  I about fell out of the skiff.  I'm better now.

I do see a little bit of Demona in Angela, especially when you get her temper going.

And as an important note, do not call her "Angie."  She hates that.

"Probably not a good idea to tell them then?""

"Would you tell a trio of teenagers that they're famous in other universes?"

[identity profile] elisa-garg.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"I rest my case," Elisa grins. "There's already enough ego between the three of them."

"You know they'll probably find out though the Nexus, right?"

[identity profile] elisa-garg.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I do. And when that happens... Eh, maybe it won't be too bad."

"Maybe..." Faye says with a grin.

"...I'm going to have to find a copy of the cartoon, aren't I?"

[identity profile] evil-god-monkey.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
She giggles. "Starting to look that way, eh?"

[identity profile] elisa-garg.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
"Aaaaah well. Oughta be good for a few laughs, at any rate. Not to mention," and she spreads her wings for dramatic effect, "wildly inaccurate."

[identity profile] evil-god-monkey.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah exactly," she pauses, looking over her own shoulder. "...almost wish I still had my wings."

[identity profile] elisa-garg.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe you'll get a chance to get them back some LOL."

[identity profile] evil-god-monkey.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 10:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe. I wonder if that Red Bull vending machine's still there?"

[identity profile] elisa-garg.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Might be. Never really bothered to check if the enchanted vending machines stick around."

"Worth a try. So how high is Xanatos' building?"

[identity profile] elisa-garg.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
"Pretty tall, actually. It's one of the tallest in Manhattan."

[identity profile] elisa-garg.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"About a hundred stories, counting the castle portion."

[identity profile] evil-god-monkey.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's pretty high." She pauses. "Have things calmed down a bit yet?"

[identity profile] elisa-garg.livejournal.com 2007-03-01 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Eh, start high enough, a good updraft, it's not so bad," Elisa says. "Some. There's not the mass hysteria anymore, at least. Still these nutjob Quarrymen, but nog big violent outbreaks."

[identity profile] evil-god-monkey.livejournal.com 2007-03-02 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
She smiles. "Thanks. I'll visit as soon as I can."

[identity profile] elisa-garg.livejournal.com 2007-03-02 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
"I'll be looking forward to it."
